Taking Community Interpretation to Northern Kenya!

Community interpreting is a specific type of interpreting service in a community-based environment, rather than in an organisational situation.

Recently, we had the privilege of providing this consecutive interpretation service for Swahili, English, Arabic and Dinka speakers at the Kakuma Refugee Camp, and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement in Turkana Northern Kenya. Kakuma refugee camp in north western Turkana County, Kenya, is the site of a UNHCR refugee camp, was established in 1992. It is one of two large refugee camps in Kenya. This unique assignment involved working with an international agency that was conducting focus group discussions within and around the Camp.
This goes to show that interpretation is indeed vital in breaking communication barriers between communities and their international partners, hence fostering peace and sustainable development work.

Our clients were very pleased with Lillian, an expert in community interpreting, for delivering quality and professional interpretation.
