SWITCH AFRICA GREEN FORUM – KAMPALA, UGANDA

Tamarind Language Services was part of the SWITCH Africa Green forum that took place in Kampala, Uganda in February 2020. The forum brought together over 300 stakeholders from partner countries including Policy-makers, Business associations, Private sector firms, Financial institutions, Academia, International development and Civil society organizations, UN agencies and SMEs from several countries involved in promoting an inclusive green economy.

The theme ‘Advancing Green Business and Circular Economy in Africa’ was framed around the outcomes of the 17th AMCEN meeting held in Durban on Circular Economy (an economic system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources) and how programs like Switch Africa Green can facilitate its implementation. Tamarind Language Services provided English-French interpretation as well as interpretation equipment during this forum.

The Ugandan Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar, government officials, representatives from the European Union and regional economic communities attended.

SWITCH Africa Green is the largest EU program and supports 34 projects in seven African countries to achieve sustainable development by engaging in the transition towards an inclusive green economy, based on sustainable consumption and production patterns. A recent survey by UNEP showed that 64% of entrepreneurs in Phase I of the program experienced a positive impact on income generation and collectively achieved average annual cost savings of $7 million by improving efficiency through eco-innovation, energy and water efficiency.
