Encouraging creativity through play at Mikaoni Nursery

The TLS team visited Mikaoni Nursery in Vipingo, Kilifi County to donate play equipment to the school.

The children and teachers were gifted skipping ropes, hula hoops and several types and sizes of balls, as well as brightly coloured water bottles. The TLS team spent the day playing and getting to know the children, as part of our ambition to observe 2022 International Day of Education.

Education is not just about books. Play is essential to healthy brain development. Children learn how to engage and interact with the world around them through play. Kenneth Ginsburg, an expert in child development, advocates for play for children. He says not only does play allow children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, but it is also useful in the development of their cognitive and emotional strength.

TLS plans to supply Mikaoni Nursery with swings and slides, offering the children more play options and making the school a more attractive prospect to potential students.

Going forward, we shall work on a long-term collaborative project to provide the nursery school with additional classrooms. The school has a growing population and enrolment is set to increase with expanded learning space.
